A mother with nowhere to go… still trying to feed babies that will never be hers.
That’s the heartbreaking story unfolding every morning at Lodhi Garden.
During sunrise, the Oriental Pied Hornbill arrives at the Grey Hornbill nest carrying food in her beak, berries, eggs, sometimes even small birds. She waits patiently at the tiny slit of the sealed nest, gently trying to feed the female and chicks inside.

And every time… she is rejected.
Still, she returns.
Again.
And again.
One morning she even brought what looked like a dead chick, carefully offering it through the opening while the female Grey screamed back in protest. When it fell, kites and crows dived for it below while the Pied sat silently nearby, almost looking defeated.
Yet the next morning, she came back once more.
Maybe she lost a nest of her own.
Maybe instinct has taken over.
Or maybe nature is simply far more emotional than we think.
Standing under that tree today, it honestly stopped feeling like birdwatching.
It felt like watching heartbreak.
The tragedy wasn’t that she was rejected.
It was that she never seemed to understand why.

New vision for this story.
This made me very emotional
Heartbreaking, yet beautifully documented!!
